Welcome to

Mark Of The Music (MOTM)

and Mark Of The Music Productions

At Mark Of The Music, we believe in the power of music to connect, heal, and inspire. Our songs are stories of real life, crafted in a variety of music styles to evoke the emotional prosody in the lyrics.

How We Produce

Our goal at Mark Of The Music Productions is to mix and  engineer our great music & lyrical tales of real life or allegories about life. We share emotions that we experience as well, to help all people to feel understood & seen, thereby reducing anxiety, frustration, and feelings of isolation.

At Mark Of The Music Productions we break some music industry rules. We focus on creating the thematic albums from the music of Mark Of The Music. As an indie creator and label, we allow the inclusion of more that a few music styles on each album. In fact, we often create multi-genre thematic albums.

By thematic, we mean each track's lyrical story fits under the umbrella of the theme of the album title. However it also means the musical styles can vary greatly. We select each musical style based on the emotional underpinnings of that music genre, sub genre, or fusion. All production then also addresses the unique emotional subtext in support of the story in each song.

And you'll find we arrange music on each album alphabetically. This allows fans to follow the original ebb and flow that we intended our music to create on each album. But you can always just pick your favorites, and add them to a playlist!

Singles are clearly titled, too. And we create a single when we feel a topic is important enough to just drop a single. And the fact that we are so selective of music styles means we continually try to honor each style by staying true to the genre while creating original music (except with fusions). In this way, we enjoy listening as well as recording and producing our original music. We hope you'll enjoy listening as well!

Next we consider vocals. We include male and female voices artists, and a few duets. Between the genres and voices. You may even feel like you are listening to a great DJ who puts together unique original tracks that make you feel, think, and tap your hands or feet. Some songs will even energize you to dance to the beat.

So please enjoy all out music. You'll definitely find songs that you can connect with when you give our a good listen to the music and even more so if you read along with the lyrics we post for most all our songs. (But we can't force the digital music platforms to accept and display all our timed out static lyrics: That's up to each of the platforms.) πŸ˜‰πŸŽΌπŸŽΆπŸŽ΅

Stay healthy and be safe, and keep the music by dropping a message and continuing to listen to our music!!!

Musically yours,

Mark, j Segal

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer songwriting services for beginners?

Basic songwriting of about mixing your insights and experiences into poetry in the form of lyrics. That can be stories, or just entertaining concepts. We cover many music styles and sub genres and music fusions to support our story driven content.  That's what we can teach best, but setting up classes may come in the future, as we are just too busy with creation ourselves at this juncture.

And make certain you learn about the requirements of how you get paid after writing lyrics as you have different requirements and agencies to join to protect your intellectual property, from your first Performing Rights Organization, as a SONGWRITER, and if your song gets recorded and published, you need your song added to the Library of Congress and now you need other agencies to collect all your royalties. So if you self publish, consider WHICH site on which to publish your finished songs and offer then for distribution.

We write music for everyone and all ages. While some songs may even be enjoyed safely by little kids, we tackle teen and adult topics and even call out malfeasance and misfeeds as well. But we magazine it without explicit lyrics as we create a safe haven for people. Most albums include a plethora of music styles, but we do occasionally offer albums in specific music genres. However, we always offer song content aligned with the album title. Album titles may be specific or broad in scope, but our lyrical stories will entertain while they make listeners feel better about their life (in most cases), as we either connect with fans on an emotional level, simply  entertain to purpose, or leave listeners laughing.

We also try to educate in many songs as we entertain, even if the educational content is subtle. We want people to get smarter in their intellectual and emotional understanding of themselves and others. It's critical to is to help our fans feel connected and feel SEEN, so no one feels disconnected from the world at large.

So that's a full introduction to music writing from our perspective. Listen to the songs in your favorite music genres and get copies of the lyrics. Break up the lyrics into the musical composition formatting likeb INTRO, VERSE, PRE-CHORUS, CHORUS, BRIDGE, and OUTRO. While not every song contains every element, every song contains a minimum of a few verses and chorus sections. The rest depends on the author. When you can basically get it right that way, you'll start to understand the usage of each type of section in lyrics. And that's the way our chief lyricist learned the basics, as the music theory classes and other music classes I took in college, actually confused me as none focused on lyrics. But they helped with understand the emotional undertones in various music genres, and ultimately, helped with music genre choices and composing the music for the songs after I decided on a melody for the vocals. But don't be too rigid, as I turn to others when I'm stuck on a lyric. And my vocalists can change my mind on portions of the melody and the music style, leading to rewriting the music composition.

Look, if you only want to write fun dance songs or pop or a specific music genre, I suggest you start your journey by looking at your ability to put your ideas into paper. If you can write poetry, you can likely turn that poetry to lyrics by rewriting and changing some words for some rhymes in the chorus. You want your chorus to be really easy to remember for your future fans.

That's your first, and maybe only lesson necessary.  I call i this your basics of "Lyrics and Music Comprehension 101".
